PMID: 14350806. Case that described that patients with schizophrenia that were treated with high doses of niacin exhibited decreased cholesterol.

Goodwin JS. The empirical basis for the discovery of new therapies. Perspect Biol Med. 1991 Autumn;35(1):20-36. doi: 10.1353/pbm.1991.0009. PMID: 1780214. This article mentions the unpremeditated finding that mood elevations were noted in patients on iproniazid, an antitubecular agent, which led to use of Monoamine-oxidase inhibiting antidepressants.

AJP Residents' Journal accepts case report defined as a presentation and discussion of an unusual clinical event. All patient information must be adequately disguised, with written consent of the patient described.  Word limits and other details are listed in this chart.
