PMID: 14350806. Case that described that patients with schizophrenia that were treated with high doses of niacin exhibited decreased cholesterol.

This article mentions the unpremeditated finding that mood elevations were noted in patients on iproniazid, an antitubecular agent, which led to use of Monoamine-oxidase inhibiting antidepressants.
